TORONTO CARIBANA, MY SOLO SHOW IN BOSTON & ANOTHER SOCA MONARCH TITLE (well, sort of LOL)…

You ever heard the line “I just flew in and boy are my wings tired!”? Well I might not have wings, but every other part of me is tired as hell having just gotten off a plane from “foreign”!! I’m not complaining though… I’m grateful for every oppportunity, and the Lord is blessing me with plenty these days!

First things first… I jetted off to Toronto, Ontario for a familiar favourite festival of mine… Caribana! Ok – I hear dey callin’ it Toronto Caribbean Carnival officially but everyone I know was saying “Caribana” that weekend, so who am I not do the same? LOL!

I had a blast, opening up with one of the biggest shows for the weekend: Carnival In Yuh Backyard. Big up Nigel, Marlon, and the whole TriniSouthBoyz crew, who threw a fabulous fete as always which featured some of the biggest names in the business including Shurwayne Winchester & Traffik, JMC 3Veni, Roy Cape All Stars, Machel Montano, Benjai, Zan, Patrice Roberts and Iwer George, not to mention myself and my lil sista Ms. Alysha!

Toronto showed us love as always – love you guys! Special shout out to the night’s MC, Giselle the Wassi One. Keep doin ya thing sista! You know we got your back like you got ours…

Okay… Sunday night your boy was at the red-hot Sin City club… for the indoor/outdoor fete alongside The Hitman, Denise Belfon and Iwer George. Another great night – hot for days! (Literally I mean! But summer is time for heat right?)

After that, your boy took a lil week out for some much-needed R&R… after all, even brand new Caribbean Soca Monarchs need rest right? LOL!

In between my rest and relaxation break, I found out that I played a part in winning a second Soca Monarch title! LOL… Ok here’s the story…

While I was in Grenada a while back to perform at the big 10 To 10 fete, my bredrin Baby Killa (now renamed Mr. Killa) “kidnapped” Naya George and myself from the hotel and we wound up at Homebase Studios, doing an impromptu tune that wound up being the “My Warriors REMIX”.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Killa liked the tune so much that he did a solo version of “My Warriors” and released it first, then put out the one with all of three of us as the Remix!

So fast forward to right after Caribana… I get a call in Toronto: “Vybe! Remember that tune you and Naya did with Killa in Grenada? Well he WON SOCA MONARCH WITH IT!”

I’m still amazed thinking about that… wow!

Congratulations to my boy Mr. Killa on his title… and good lookin’ Naya (I hear yuh sing with Killa for Soca Monarch – I’m sorry I couldn’t be there to add my piece. Soon come though!)

So… another title (sorta) in de camp LOL.

While I’m congratulating people, congrats to one of my best friends (and fellow Big Artiste Crew member) Nadia Batson who wrote “Flames” – the song that won Road March in Barbados for Barry Chandler (lead singer of the band Jabae). Barry also won the Party Monarch title with that song!

In addition, Nadie wrote a song for El A Kru’s lead singer Tizzy, called “Expose” that carried her to a very impressive second place at the Soca Monarch in Antigua!

Nadie – yuh goin “from One Island to another island” in real life! I’m proud of you! My friend is a BIG writer! LOL!

And last (but not least) – more congratulations go out to my “lil brother” Kasey Phillips of Precision Productions fame who produced the 2006 Grenada Road March tune: Soca Banton’s “Ova U Head”!

A next Big Artiste Crew win for the year! Big Artiste Crew for EVER! Congrats Goat! Come back from N.Y. fast so we could do some WORK!!! LOL!

Turns out yuh boy (ME!) sang backgrounds on that tune as well! ROTFL!

Okay, back to ME being on the road… after my R&R I literally had a couple of days in Trini to run into the studio before jetting back out to Boston, Massachusetts for a show.

I have to say it was the first time I’ve been the ONLY act on a show of my own… but it was the GREATEST experience! Wow – your boy can fill up a club all by his damn self now… talk about coming a LONG way!

Boston people – allyuh certainly know how to PARTY (even if they DO stop the fete at 2:00 am there).

My undying thanks to the whole 102.9 Choice FM crew who worked tirelessly to make sure the show was a success and that I was well taken care of.

Big shouts to Diamond Dale (shy off the mic but FIRE once he open his mouth!) – that was one of the best interviews I’ve done in a minute!

I gotta holla at one of the wickedest Soca selectors in Boston – the one and only Ox (AKA Digital Seduction)! Bless up King!

Extra special shout out to my Choice-FM Boston ladies… Jessica, Lia and Liz! You three really showed me a good time. Hope to be back soon!

To all the ladies that took part in the wining competition that I judged… I’m sorry there could only be one winner but I certainly had fun narrowing it down!

Oh and big up to the Birthday Girl and her crew! You know who you are… ;-)

Lastly, thanks to the security and management at Club Mirage who treated me like a true celebrity! (You can let OTHER people in V.I.P. – it’s cool with me!)

Well yuh boy is back in Trini again… gonna get some sleep and then it’s back to the grind… got writing and studio to get going and still more shows coming up in between…

In the meantime – thanks for the support everyone!

Bless!
