So far 2013 has seen my #SONGWRITING touch a range of islands for their Carnival celebrations. From TnT Carnival 2013, on to St. Vincent, St. Lucia, Antigua, Grenada and Barbados, I’ve been given the opportunity to contribute songs all over the region. This one is another nod to Barbados Crop Over 2013. Feast your ears on the young, rising young Trinidadian songbird named Shradah, with her new release “Time To Wuk (Bajan Wuk Up)”, Written by Yours Truly Mista Vybe and Produced by Barbados’ renowned Peter Coppin (of MonstaPiece fame)!
It seems truly fitting that at the height of the Crop Over season, Shradah’s sassy voice croons the lyrics “Ah want ah wuk up from a Bajan man/So gimme wuk baby, like in a Bajan band” – all in her clearly Trini accent.
The story of how the song came to be is fairly simple.
Previously, I had a chance to write a Groovy/Ragga Soca joint for reigning St. Vincent Soca Monarch Skinny Fabulous (“Non Stop” on the RedRum Riddim). Now, I’m happy to announce my second writing job for the “Marga Man” himself. Ladies and Gentlemen – I proudly give you (thanks to J-Rod Records and Precision Digital) the “Fyah Anthem” by Skinny Fabulous, produced by Ashwin “Smash” Seegobin and Precision Productions (and #SONGWRITING by Mista Vybe)!
There seems to be some kind of trend forming with me writing two contrasting songs for two totally different artists (lol). In 2012 I wrote “D Wetter D Better” for Alpha and “We Gone Clear” for Teddyson John on the Soufriere Riddim. This year I wrote “Madd Again” for DJ HP and “Mash Up” for Destra Garcia on the Emergency Riddim. I’m sure you’re already familiar with “Non Stop” by Skinny Fabulous on the RedRum Riddim (which, of course I wrote). Now, I’m happy to announce the release of my second #SONGWRITING foray on the RedRum Riddim: “Carnival Spirit” by Patrice Roberts!
In retrospect, I have to say that this was one of those projects where Fate works in mysterious ways.
It all started the week before Trinidad Carnival 2013. (more…)
In the course of my #SONGWRITING journey I’ve gotten to work with several “big names” in the Soca world, and this project is yet another impressive addition to the list. In addition, the lovely lady lending her voice to the track also happens to be an old friend in the Business, which makes the project even more special to me. Time to get into 2013 Barbados Cropver mode with the Caribbean Queen of Soca herself, Alison Hinds’ new release: “Bubble And Kotch” (on the BangBaDang Riddim), produced by Gary Serrao & Derek Brin (in collaboration with Darien Bailey and Anthony Lowhar) – and of course, the #SONGWRITING was done by Yours Truly, Mista Vybe! (more…)
Almost a year in the making, this track is a proud moment for me writing-wise. It’s not often that you get to contribute to a historic moment in the culture of a country, but this is definitely such a moment. Prepare to feast your ears on the long-awaited duet by two of Antigua’s biggest Soca stars! Introducing “Superstar” by Tian Winter featuring Claudette Peters, produced by Precision Productions, with #SONGWRITING by Yours Truly, Mista Vybe!
For those who may not be aware, Tian and Claudette are both bona fide super stars in their home island of Antigua. As a matter of fact, between them they collectively hold an amazing 13 Power and Groovy Soca Monarch titles! (more…)
